Amazon is holding my money for 90 days

Day 90 is when you can ask. It is not when you get paid.

Short answer

Amazon's notice says funds may be held "up to 90 days, but funds may be held longer." Day 90 is when you become able to request a disbursement — not when money arrives automatically. Amazon then runs a separate review and may withhold some or all of it. Plan your cash assuming the money may not come back at all.

The misreading that causes real damage

Sellers read "90 days" as a payment date and borrow against it. It is not a payment date.

If you did not appeal, or your appeal failed, you can email disbursement-appeals@amazon.com after 90 days. Amazon then runs a separate review and can keep some or all of the balance where it finds deceptive, fraudulent or illegal activity, or repeated policy violations.

What to do about cash, in priority order

  1. Stop advertising spend immediately. Usually the largest instant saving.
  2. Cancel or pause subscription tools — repricers, analytics, keyword tools. They bill whether or not you are selling.
  3. Contact suppliers before you miss a payment. A warned supplier is far more cooperative than a surprised one.
  4. Pause inbound shipments. Do not send more stock into a warehouse you cannot sell from.
  5. List elsewhere. Any stock you physically hold can still generate cash.
  6. Do not borrow against an expected reinstatement. The timing of Amazon's decision is the one thing you cannot safely assume.

Your stock

Removal eligibility depends on why the account was deactivated. Where Amazon has found counterfeit or fraud, inventory is generally not returned and may be destroyed. Removal orders often cannot be created while deactivated — try one anyway, and record the error if it fails. Storage fees usually keep accruing throughout.

Arbitration — the route most sellers never consider

Amazon's seller agreement sends disputes to binding arbitration rather than court, with a small-claims carve-out. Amazon's wording: "We will reimburse those fees for claims totaling less than $10,000 unless the arbitrator determines the claims are frivolous."

The catch is cash flow. "Reimburse" means you pay first and are repaid after. Reported initial filing outlay is around $1,725; the American Arbitration Association's published minimum initial filing fee for commercial cases is $500, with claims under $75,000 typically between $925 and $2,075. A seller whose money Amazon is holding is often exactly the person who cannot front that.

Be aware the picture is mixed: law firms write about this route positively, while sellers on Amazon's own forums report no documented recoveries and warn costs can exceed the sum in dispute. Both are true. It is a real option worth legal advice on a large frozen sum — not a reliable one.

UK and EU sellers have a separate route

Under Platform-to-Business rules, Amazon must give a statement of reasons for a suspension, name independent mediators, and cover at least half the mediation cost. The UK retained these rules after Brexit (Regulation 2019/1150, adopted 12 July 2020), so UK sellers keep the same rights — including 30 days' advance notice on a full termination. This runs alongside appeals rather than replacing them.
